Stillman's Firefighting Demonstrations (2-DVD set)

Fire fighters are the true heroes of America. Every day they put their lives on the line to make our communities as safe as possible. Who among us can imagine the bravery it must take to rush into a burning building, battling against the most destructive force nature has to offer?

Yet most of us don't know what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a fireman. How are they trained? How do they keep us safe when they are not fighting fires? It's not all about rescuing cats from the tops of trees!

Here are the highlights of the best tracks you will see when you order Stillman's Firefighting Demonstrations today:

Stillman Fires Collection: Artificial Respiration
This silent film from the 20s is about how to do the old out-with-the-bad-air, in-comes-the-good-air method of artificial respiration. The film repeatedly emphasizes that after a victim is resuscitated he should not be allowed to get up--this is portrayed on screen by showing rescuers literally wrestling victims to the ground. They also move victims' spines around a lot when preparing them for artificial respiration. This is a quaint view of resuscitation techniques from another era.

Stillman Fires Collection: Typical Fire
In this clip a demonstration of a stand pipe is shown here. First, the film poo-poos conventional fire fighting methods, which are just blowing water from the outside, and especially from the angle presented, it doesn't even reach the fire! However, with this new stand pipe, water can go in as straight as possible. You will see how fire fighting methods were developed!

Stillman Fires Collection: Fires Miscellaneous
A variety of fire clips, including what REALLY is in a fire marshal's car, a demonstration of firemen on ladders and boats, and then the real fun kicks in, and we get to see fire after fire! What's so great, of course, is that this is 1930 we're talking about here, and so there are not a lot of sprinklers that have been installed. So when something burns, it BURNS! Schools! Rubber factories! It's all here!
