Historic Travels US - San Francisco - A Jewel in California's Crown DVD

Walk San Francisco's crowded Market Street, take a rare peek at the United States coin-making mint, gape in wonder at the amazing Golden Gate Bridge and visit the biggest Chinese settlement outside of China in the ‘40s! This fabulous and historic DVD has all this and more!

Ever since the gold fever died down and men discovered that California had much more to offer than just gold, people have thronged to this golden state which is sometimes jokingly referred to as the "state of fruits and nuts". A booming economy, availability of jobs and a pleasant climate have ensured that there are few dull moments when you are in California.

Inspired by the Golden Horn (Chrysoceras) of Istanbul's Bosphorus Strait, the one that links Europe to Asia, John C Fremont thought it befitting that the charming city's majestic bay have an equally memorable name and promptly christened it "The Golden Gate".

After years of deliberations, construction finally commenced on the much-needed bridge across the Bay on January 5, 1933. The Majestic "one of its kind' bridge - built at the cost of millions of dollars and eleven lives that were lost during construction - was opened to vehicular traffic more than four years later, on May 28, 1937.

The Golden gate Bridge remains one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the world, and has come to symbolize San Francisco. Yet, the glamorous city has many other fascinating attractions that are as alluring as the Bridge itself. For instance, San Francisco's Chinatown is one of the world's biggest oriental settlements outside of China and few places in the world are better known than the Fisherman's Wharf.

This fascinating DVD from a2zcds.com provides a delightful peek at San Francisco as it was in the early part of the 20th century and explains why millions proudly call it home.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:

"They say that most visitors to San Francisco wish they never have to leave the charming city, and the unfortunate ones who are compelled by circumstances to do so, leave their hearts behind! Yes, there is something special about this bewitching city - some unexplainable charm that inspires everybody from poets and lyricists to singers and politicians.

Pulsating, throbbing, enticing and unforgettable is how this delightful place has always been remembered and this fascinating DVD explains why.

Despite their age, the clips are miraculously well preserved. These marvelous celluloid masterpieces are themselves works of art and as invaluable as the history they serve to preserve. Apparently shot by someone without the benefit of too many technical inputs, some of the clips capture a refreshingly amateuristic perspective of the city. For the pickier, this DVD also has a professional offering on the city's progressive outlook and its capabilities at staging global events.

I love San Francisco and these clips provide a fabulous motive for revisiting it. Tourists, history buffs and San Franciscans, here is one DVD that is certain to bring a smile to your face, and also one that is a must have, if the fascinating city means anything to you!"

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:

"Here is a delightful and historic record of San Francisco - the city that everybody loves to love. I especially like the old clips showing places in the city that are now barely recognizable - Market Street and parts of Chinatown. It's interesting to learn how the city has evolved and grown both in size and magnetism. I am sure everybody who loves San Francisco is going to love this DVD, both for its antiquity and thrilling record of the city's history."
