Historic Travels US - Enchanting Life in the Southwest DVD

This rare and historic DVD covers the enchanting life in the southwestern states like no other. Learn about the enthralling history of native Indians and the matchless beauty of New Mexico and Arizona in this unique collection of films.

New Mexico is a land that has a timeless fascination that is all its own. Inhabited for centuries by native Indian tribes whose cultures were as diverse as the landscape itself, New Mexico continues to charm travelers even today.

While several modern towns and cities have sprung up in the last century offering modern amenities and comforts, the heart of New Mexico still remains the rugged mountainous region, which retains much of its centuries-old charm. New Mexico is one of the few places in the country where one can witness ancient agricultural and ranching traditions existing alongside a rapidly developing electronics industry.

For centuries, Indians had farmed the fertile land bordering the Rio Grande and by the end of the 13th century several Indians had abandoned the unproductive northwest and settled in the south along with other Indians already living there. Together they developed sophisticated Pueblo communities whose highly organized life-styles have been the subject of much study and admiration.

During the 17th century, the Spanish claimed the land and attempted to convert the natives to Christianity with mixed success. Several historic monasteries and churches bear witness to this Spanish influence on New Mexico. The historic opening of the Santa Fe Trail, running from Missouri to Santa Fe opened trade with the U.S. and brought new lifestyles, money and settlers to New Mexico.

New Mexico continues to lure travelers with its pristine, rugged landscape, clear skies and the warmth of its friendly people, many of whom still carry the legacy of a rich and ancient heritage with a sense of pride.

This DVD presents an absorbing pictorial account of life in New Mexico and its neighboring states - Arizona and Texas.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:

"The marvelous manner in which the rich culture and history of Indians living in the rugged mountains of New Mexico is presented in this DVD is truly laudable. Filmed largely in color by professional lens men under the watchful eyes of skilled producers, these films bring to life a long history of the region in the most thrilling manner.

Adding to the excitement of outdoor nighttime rodeos is a fascinating clip about the Santa Cruz Trail, which was instrumental in bringing many settlers to the area. On the other hand the documentary on the Pueblos and Navajo Indians is both insightful and thought provoking, providing a rare insight into the history and culture of native Indian Tribes, who are seldom in the news or the limelight.

In between, you are treated to an absorbing travelogue of the enchanting southwest, with its majestic and rugged mountain peaks chiseled into fabulous shapes by the forces of nature, its ever-changing wind blown landscape and stately desert vegetation. You also see the history of the land etched in the historic monuments that dot the landscape - churches, forts and abandoned native villages.

Thrilling, absorbing and steeped in historical detail and facts, this DVD is one of its kind, and is certain to enlighten any history buff or student who examines its invaluable contents."

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:

"I was delighted by the clip entitled "Tomorrow’s Drivers". I think it was a great idea to start educating children about traffic regulations. Like they say ‘well begun, is half done’ and I am quite certain that by the time these children obtained their driving lessons, they were well versed in traffic regulations. I wonder whether they still follow such excellent educational programs in Arizona. I think it will be a good idea to place this DVD in all school libraries in the country. Thanks a2zcds for this great educational DVD."
