Historic Time Travel - Korean War DVD
|
|
Abandoning America’s previous stance of non-interference since it was beyond its concern in the Pacific, President Truman eventually approved the launching of air strikes against North Korean forces and the protection of Formosa by the Seventh Fleet. One of the main catalysts for involvement was the Soviet boycott of the Security Council while the Nationalist Republic of China held the Chinese seat. In simplified terms, the U.S. involvement in the Korea was an expression of its anti-Communist orientation.
The U.S. was aligned with fifteen other UN members, and locked horns with North Korea for the first time on July 5, 1945. Chairman Mao managed to obtain limited Soviet air support and on January 4, 1951, communist Chinese and North Korean forces captured the Korean capital of Seoul. In the course of the extended Korean conflict, close to 6.8 million enlisted personnel served on active duty. About 600,000 Koreans, almost a million Chinese and approximately 50,000 American soldiers lost their lives.
|
There was an upside, too. Approximately 176,000 Korean veterans received service-oriented compensation, 1.8 million Korean veterans used VA Home Loans to buy their first houses and 79,000 disabled Korean veterans received vocational rehabilitation. America proved its humane side in this war as few post-conflict countries have since.

The Crime of Korea
This clip covers a war correspondent’s recollections of Seoul, and how Koreans rejoiced in their freedom after the yoke of Japanese rule was lifted from their shoulders. His previous memories are in stark contrast to what he finds there a few years later – a country torn and devastated by war. As the last outpost against communism, American soldiers were clearly seen as God-sent liberators.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:
"Paradoxically, the Korean War proved to be a mixed blessing for America. Apart from serving as a tailor-made anti Communist platform, it was also a launching pad for enhanced technology and caused a major hike in the country’s defense budget. These and many other factors must be kept in mind while watching Historic Time Travel – Korean War, an excellent compilation of newsreel clips and informational documentaries that aimed to keep the world updated on events on the Korean Front as and when they developed."
CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:
"It is so easy to consider the Korean War from a detached perspective – as something that happened to other people in another age. But it concerned our country…America. I am really so provoked to thought by the contents of this DVD from A2ZCDS.com (Historic Time Travel –Korean War). The clip of a war correspondent’s impressions is brilliantly conceived and made."

"I derived a real sense of history-in-the-making from the Historic Time Travel –Korean War DVD. My father was killed in Korea, and the issues of the war have always been very close to my family’s heart. The clips in this collection are pertinent and have been well chosen. Do you have any further material on the Korean War, A2ZCDS?"
